There are owners who for a variety of reasons are unable to care for their hermit crabs. As a result, they might give them away on social media or Craigslist. This is actually where we see most of the hermit crabs being sold. We’ve all seen the cages with tons of hermit crabs hanging on the side. This probably the easiest place to buy them. However, make sure you are buying a good looking crab. They might advertise hermit crabs with painted shells, but this is actually harmful and stressful for the crab.
One of the popular beach town stores that sell hermit crabs is Sunsations. Please remember that hermit crabs are complex animals. They are not souvenirs. So when buying a hermit crab from one of these locations, do so with the idea that you will care for them as you would any other pet.
